On April 2-3, 2026, a training seminar on "Legal protection of patent and copyright objects in the Republic of Kazakhstan" was held at the Kazpatent Branch Training Center in Almaty for employees of the K.I. Satpayev Kazakh National Research Technical University.
Zaure Orynbekova, Director of the Kazpatent Branch, addressed the participants with a welcoming speech, emphasizing the importance of legal competencies in the field of intellectual property for the effective commercialization of scientific developments and the protection of the results of intellectual activity of the university.
During the seminar, the experts of the Kazpatent branch reviewed key aspects of international agreements and patent legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the conditions of patentability of inventions and utility models, the procedure for examination and conversion of applications. Special attention was paid to international patenting: PCT procedures and the capabilities of regional systems (EAPO, EPO).
A significant part of the program was devoted to working with patent information: the methodology of conducting a search for novelty, the structure of patent documentation and the use of international databases (Espacenet, Patentscope, EAPATIS). Practical issues of office management were also considered, including the preparation of responses to examination requests, the filing of petitions and the restoration of deadlines.
During the second day, the participants studied the basics of copyright in the Republic of Kazakhstan and worked out the skills of working with the electronic application system through the Kazpatent personal account and the State Register of Intellectual Property Objects.
Following the seminar, a question and answer session was held, during which the participants received additional clarifications on practical aspects of the legal protection of intellectual property objects. All students were awarded certificates of completion. The Kazpatent branch expresses its gratitude to the staff of K.I. Satpayev KazNRTU for their active participation and interest in developing knowledge and practical skills in the field of intellectual property.
