Kazpatent held a meeting with Nur-Sultan schoolchildren

Kazpatent held a meeting with 150 students from Nur-Sultan schools as part of the Young Inventor School on December 23, 2021.

The purpose of the Young Inventor School is to promote knowledge in the field of intellectual property, as well as to motivate the development of inventions among the youth of Kazakhstan.

Results of the annual republican contest of inventors "Shapagat"

The competition in the new format was held for the fifth time. Among the ten winners of the competition are innovators in the fields of agriculture, mining, medicine and the technical industry. Finalists of the competition are determined by SMS voting. Participants of the 2021 competition are inventors from Kazakhstan with valid patents issued in 2020. Results of the republican contest among schoolchildren for the best essay “The future is in your hands: invent and create”, which started on September 2, 2021, were summed up on October 22, 2021. The purpose of the competition is to stimulate creative activity among schoolchildren, to popularize and disseminate knowledge in the field of intellectual property, to instill the foundations of patent culture for the younger generation.

Memorandum of Understanding signed with Kyrgyzpatent

Today, on October 20, 2021, a Memorandum of Understanding (Memorandum) was signed between the RSE "National Institute of Intellectual Property" of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Kazpatent) and the State Agency of Intellectual Property and Innovation under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic (Kyrgyzpatent).

Webinar for employees of business development departments of local executive bodies

Today, on October 14, 2021, Kazpatent held a webinar on the topic: "Regional brand as a means of promoting local products", which was aimed at familiarizing local executive bodies with legal protection and conditions for registering items of appellations of origin as an object of intellectual property.
Deputy Director Aidyn Artykova opened the webinar with a welcoming speech, introducing the audience to the main activities of the RSE "NIIP".

Online training on the legal protection of IP objects

The event was initiated by the Kazakh side in order to develop mutually beneficial cooperation and practical interaction in the field of intellectual property within the recommendations of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on trade and economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.


A meeting was held with international experts on promising geographical indications

On September 27, 2021, within the framework of the implementation of the regional program of the European Union "Central Asia – Invest", representatives of Kazpatent met with international experts on the registration of appellations of origin of goods and the definition of promising geographical indications.

Meeting with international experts on geographical indications

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss topical issues within the framework of the regional project "Regional integration and capacity-building to improve the competitiveness of Micro, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in the agribusiness and trade promotion in Central Asia - CANDY V". 

The project's activities are aimed at improving the competitiveness of export-oriented enterprises in the Central Asian agricultural sector through the introduction of world-renowned tools to promote local products and territories abroad, namely, geographical indications. Geographical instructions contribute to the development of the tourist destination through gastronomic tourism, agrotourism, ecotourism, as well as increase the economic potential of the territories.

In the period from May 2020 to May 2021, the project partners and related stakeholders selected products that could be registered as GU and prepared a feasibility study. 1 product has been selected from Kazakhstan to participate in the pilot project, namely Almaty Airport. Promotion of the product as a geographical indication will increase the recognition of the region and contribute to the development of tourism.


Webinar on "Regional brand as a tool for promoting a local product" for SMEs


The aim of the events is to familiarize SMEs with such an object of intellectual property as appellation of origin (AOI) and some aspects of the AOI registration procedure. AOI and GIs are means of promoting of local products, as well as in increasing the economic potential of a region and even of individual countries, developing the tourism industry, gastronomy tourism, which consequently has a beneficial effect on the economies of those countries as well.

In addition to the geographical origin or place of origin of a product, the legal protection system of an AOI seeks to protect the quality of the product, its unique characteristics and the factors involved in its production.

A new intellectual property object, Geographical Indication (GI), is currently being introduced into IP legislation. The draft law is under discussion in the Parliament.
